With an enviable unite of both urban and rural environments, a prestigious heritage and sense of tradition, Mitch am and its surrounds offer a unique experience for those tempted by cultural exhibitions and festivals, native bush land, heritage and architecture, scenic views and more. Founded in 1853, the City of Mitch am is Adelaide's second oldest Council area and celebrated 150 years in 2003. Residents of Mitch am live in 32 suburbs all of which have their own particular style and community spirit. From the leafy backdrop of the Hills environment, to the foothills homes which share exquisite panoramic views of Adelaide and the plains, the variety and uniqueness of the area is obvious. The plains suburbs include Springfield, one of Adelaide's most prestigious suburbs, our heritage listed garden suburb Colonel Light Gardens which provides an excellent example of 1920's town planning, with affordable housing on present in the clean suburbs in the City's western sector to the wide avenue streets of the eastern plains suburbs of Kings wood and Hawthorn. Spectacular ripple marked surfaces are preserved in the rocks and large scale folds reflect the intensity of the forces which deformed the rocks nearly 500 million years ago.
