Jeff being the busy person he is planted the now DJ Organic Vineyard on his 5.5ha property in the slow 1990’s when he decided it was time to retire. Over the years the DJ family have been producing premium organic wines from their organic single vineyard estate in the heart of McLaren Vale. The DJ’s Rivers Lane organic vineyard is owned and operated by three family generations and is located at the edge of the McLaren Vale township. The maritime convince of the nearby coastline, combined with wealthy fertile soils consisting of sandy red clay over limestone, provides ideal conditions for producing premium wine grapes. It’s a passion that is reflected in these handcrafted, insignificant release wines. The award-winning Shiraz wines DJ produces from their single vineyard site are of intense flavor and deep color with elegance, structure, power and complexity. The use of organic farming methods in the growing of the vines enables the Vigneron to be sustainable through optimization of organic material (humus) in soils. This method creates vines that are sustained by spontaneous fertility of the soil, which then creates enhanced biological health in the vines in turn allowing us to create wines produced with flavors that better represent the region in which they are grown. Begin fermentation and careful aging in French and American oak present the wine balance and complexity. Dry conditions and Intense heat experienced during the growing season proved hard though the resulting wine is packed in flavor and body.
