What you should know about Edinburgh Hotel

Restaurant in Mitcham, Building in Mitcham, Garden in Mitcham, Tables in Mitcham

The mellow old building and add-ons are in a complex that includes a retail outlet with truly awesome stock, and the inevitable pokies. Bruschetta come topped with hollandaise, capers and al dente asparagus. Pies, steaks and schnitzels to be sure together with enough alternatives to ring the changes whatever your mood and appetite.the food and an excellent wine list are not the only drawcards - the staff is agreeable and efficient.meals come to the table with a sense of flourish and dishes, such as pumpkin soup and atlantic salmon fillet, are excellent. What regularly draws crowds here is a menu which is eclectic, of quality and keenly priced. For others, there is a big, airy bar fronting the veranda and leading to a pavilion-style dining room which overlooks tables and chairs in a manicured garden. But bandit-haters be assured - they are segregated. Beef fillet is cooked to perfection and served with scallops and snow peas on mashed potato.

Nesbit died three years later and was buried with his baby son in Mitch am Cemetery. He had lived in Mitch am since at minimum 1857 with his wife, Helen Kringle and five children born in Mitch am. John was a coach smith and he took over from Robert Nesbit as publican in 1874 and ran it until his death in 1879. This closed in 1864 and five years later in 1869, opened again with W. Miller as the licensee and continued until 1909 with Robert J. Although regrettably many of the early buildings have been demolished, the shape of the original Mitch am Village is still discernible. The first house built in 1840 still stands today in Brown Hill Creek Road as do many of the shops and cottages in adjoining Albert Street. All are classical reminders of the early history of the Victorian era. Charles Mullen was a brewer who at one time owned the brewery whose office quiet remains today at the corner of Princes and Unley Roads (opposite the Torrens Arms Hotel). Fortunately, the new owners of Reynella made safe the hotel remained an integral piece of the district. The Edinburgh was purchased by Chris coaling and Danny Djurasevich in 1978. Bean and Rita Campbell were the managers at that time. The two ex Scotch College owners have a vast affinity for the Mitch am area and have gradually renovated the hotel with great historic sympathy to the local area. The Victorian Dining Room was renovated in 1991 and the Pavilion was raised, a new kitchen built and Village Prohibit extended in 1994. They died when Janet was two years worn and she was then raised by James and Janet Gardner. Janet eventually inherited the property and continued the family business with her dog Jack until her death in 1942. She sold haberdashery and lots of lollies, the aniseed balls, four for a penny, being very popular, with the children. The owners finally decided to redevelop the shop with much of the local stone and call it Edinburgh Cellars. The Cellars were expanded again three years later and a important Cellar and extended drive through and nippy room were added. In addition to the Service Clubs and the local schools the hotel has a wide variety of charity groups it supports. Both the owners are heavily involved with the SA Variety Club and many donations and general promote is given to this organization annually. As healthy as providing the food, a team of Ed staff and regular customers volunteer their time to cook and serve meals on the annual Variety Bash. The Ed is a sponsors of the Variety Club golf day, and many prizes are donated for raffles throughout the year. The Hotel is a major sponsor of Vehicle 22 (The Penguins!) which has been the maximum fund raising vehicle over the previous three years.
